Dr. Erika Horwitz is a psychologist and former Director of Counselling Services at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, B.C. She also works in private practice serving individuals, couples, and offering groups for people with a range of presenting issues. She has been helping people for 25 years overcome challenges that present in their lives.
She received her Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia. She is a Certified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction teacher (Certification was granted by The Center For Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School). In addition, she attended 2 additional professional development retreats offered by Center for Mindfulness at UMass. She has many passions, all focused on making a difference in the lives of others. Her work in the area of Mindfulness therapies has supported and helped to change the lives of those who have taken the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program with her or who have experienced mindfulness based therapies in individual counselling.
Dr. Horwitz also holds a specialty in the area of Eating Disorders. She has offered counselling to many who have found peace with their bodies and food.
Her doctoral research led to a book: Through the Maze of Motherhood: Empowered Mothers Speak, which she published in 2011. She is an advocate for mothers and offers counselling and consulting to mothers and families.
She lives in the Vancouver area with her husband and has two daughters.
